"I lost my job due to COVID"
"I lost my job due to COVID-19"
While answering over 200 questions on Instagram the past 2 days, this was the most common scenario of those seeking advice. SDRs, AEs, and Sales Leaders who lost their job during COVID, asking what they should do?
Here's my general answer to anyone in this situation:
There are 3 things you need to focus on. The first is immediately reducing your cost of living. The job market is not great and it may take time before you're back to earning. Stop all unnecessary spending and plan a budget that ideally gives you 6 months of runway.
Secondly, focus 70% of your usual work-hours on job searching, networking, and engaging with folks on LinkedIn. Be creative, make custom videos to send to hiring managers selling them on why they'll win if they hire you.
Spend 20% of your time further educating yourself. The internet is filled with free sales content that can make you better at what you do. There's never been a better time to take advantage of these resources.
Lastly, spend 10% of your time finding alternate ways to generate income. Sell unneeded possessions on eBay, start an Etsy business, flip items from Craigslist, etc. A few hundred dollars each month can extend your runway.
Be strategic with your time and you WILL come out of this ahead.
