Your Remote Sales Job Isn't Remote
Jul 16, 2025
Remote sales isn't really remote if it requires travel.
Somehow the entire industry has collectively confused the definition of remote sales.
Remote Sales = selling from a home office
Inside Sales = selling from a company office
Outside Sales = traveling to prospects and customers
Just because you don't have a company office, doesn't mean your sales roles are remote if you're asking salespeople to travel to prospects and customers.
There's nothing wrong with Outside Sales, but it's somehow now being labeled as Remote Sales... but it's not.
This is causing applicants of SDR, AE, and VP Sales roles collectively to waste tremendous amounts of time applying to the wrong roles.
It's a huge waste of time on the hiring side as well.
Label your sales roles correctly.
I think recruiters are trying to "cast a wider net" by doing this but they're really just attracting the wrong applicants.
The more transparent your job postings are, the better applicants you'll receive.
This is the one distinction I see people wasting the most time over since it's something where people know exactly what they want and what they don't, but they can no longer effectively search for it.
Happy Selling,
